Inter Milan vs. Bayern Munich – UEFA Champions League Review (Part 2)
With the first half coming to an end, both the teams settled goalless. There wasn’t a lot of action during the first half. Bayern Munich made a slow start compared to Inter Milan who tried to take advantage of their home ground and tried to find the
back of the net more often. The Germans were relying too much on the possession of the ball as they believed in the philosophy: “As long as you have the ball your opponent can’t score.” http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan had their chances on goal and so did Bayern Munich but none
of the teams managed to find the back of the net throughout the first 45 minutes.
With the first half ending in a goalless draw but with a lot of action, the second half was to be full of surprises. Bayern Munich came onto the pitch with flying colours. Even though they started the game slow, they picked up pace as they took their
positions on the field during the second half.
The Germans took advantage of early possession as they kicked off at the San Siro. It was the Flying Dutchman http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Christian-c9045 Chivu on the right flank and sent an inch perfect cross towards the German striker Thomas Mueller.
The German youngster tried to get the ball behind the net with his first touch but simply couldn’t curl it perfectly as it deflected off http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Andrea-Ranocchia-c5708. The Inter Milan defender couldn’t clear the ball completely as it fell right at the feet of Mario Gomez.
Even though Mario Gomez looked to be clear on goal and was about to take his chances on goal, Ranocchia slid back in and saved the day for the home side.
With that attack coming to an end, Inter Milan had a chance to breathe. The Italian Champions rotated the ball throughout the pitch to build back the confidence they lacked during the second half. After a long patch of possession keeping, the Italians
made a move forward and tried to score.
Bastian Shweinsteiger was playing a vital role of the Germans. He was playing as a box to box player and mostly got the better out of the Dutch midfield magician Wesley Sneijder. The Dutch midfielder was quiet for most of the game and it was basically
because of Shweinsteiger who was dominating the midfield and literally schooling the Italians. Even though Shweinsteiger got the best out of Wesley Sneijder throughout the game, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Wesley-Sneijder-c36799 did involve himself in one outstanding move that could easily
end up behind the back of the net if it hadn’t been for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Esteban-Cambiasso-c12912 who missed his fourth opportunity of the night.
The Dutch midfielder made a wonderful run from the centre of the pitch and got past two Munich players. As Shweinsteiger tried to block his run down, Wesley Sneijder easily evaded him by changing his path and giving a wonderful through ball towards
Samuel Eto’o who had the chance to score. The Cameroonian decided to make a run forward but his options were quickly narrowed down as the Munich defenders closed him down. Eto’o came under pressure but was still able to give a chipped pass to Esteban Cambiasso
who made a good run inside the 18 yard box.
