Inter Milan's Diego Milito back in training ahead of Champions League clash
Inter Milan striker Diego Milito has reportedly returned to training ahead of his side’s group stage match against Werder Bremen in the UEFA Champions League.
Milito picked up a knock in the 1-0 league loss at the hands of Roma on Saturday and the prognosis had expected to see him ruled him out of Wednesday’s match.
However, according to Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport, the Argentinean striker is back in training with the reigning Italian and European champions and is now likely to play at least some part against the German Bundesliga side at the San
Siro.
Hoping to make amends
That will come as good news for the 31-year-old striker, who has scored two goals so far in Serie A this season. He will be hoping to atone for a major error in the opening Champions League group stage match against Dutch champions FC Twente. He cost Inter
two valuable points in the match as he netted an own goal in a 2-2 draw.
The striker was crucial to Inter’s enormous success over the last year. He only joined the club last summer, but went on to make a huge impact, scoring 30 goals in 51 games across all competitions. Milito netted both goals in the final of Europe’s elite
club competition against Bayern Munich to hand Inter their first European Cup in 45 years.
Despite the news that Milito may be ready to face Bremen, Inter manager Rafael Benitez will be unable to call upon the talented Goran Pandev for Wednesday’s match. The Macedonia forward is suffering from problems affecting his ankles and was not able to
take part in a training session on Tuesday.
