Inter Milan’s Maicon lowers wage demands in order to speed up move to Real Madrid
Inter Milan’s star right back Maicon is nearly on the verge of striking a deal with Real Madrid. The Brazilian’s transfer saga has been going on for a while now, but it finally looks like it’s going to be coming to a close soon.
The Brazilian right back is currently twenty nine years old and has been associated with the Spanish giants for a while (since 2006, to be precise). The deal seemed to have drawn to a close earlier, but the player’s wage demands were something that slowed down the progress of the deal. These wage demands previously put Manchester City on the alert, who were looking to swoop in for the player following the player’s agent’s announcement. Antonio Caliendo, the player’s agent, said last Tuesday that he was unhappy with the way Real Madrid were treating his client (reports claimed he had accused Real Madrid of ‘sabotaging’ the deal for the Inter Milan player). Nonetheless, the player might still be on the verge of joining the Spanish team.
In order to speed up the process, the player has lowered his wage demands. The player had initially demanded his wages to be around seven million Euros, but in order to see the deal go through, he reduced that figure by one and a half million Euros. In addition to the player lowering his demands, the Italian club that he is currently employed at have also lowered their demands for the player.
After talks with the player’s agent Caliendo, Madrid are reported to be very satisfied. The player’s agent is also planning on extending his stay in Spain, in hopes of seeing the deal go through smoothly without any hiccups.
Though the Maicon transfer saga has been one of the most complicated of the summer, it easily falls behind the Cesc Fabregas saga that seems to be heading nowhere any time soon.
Maicon is currently on a pre-season tour of North America with Inter Milan but he is hoping to move to Spain so that he can get reinstated with former boss, Jose Mourinho.
Mourinho had previously coached Maicon when he was the manager at Inter Milan, and was impressed by his qualities. It is this strong interest in the player that saw Mourinho name Maicon as the first player that he wanted to sign.
If Maicon manages to arrive at the Bernabeu, he would be a direct replacement for Sergio Ramos. Ramos has just won the 2010 FIFA World Cup with Spain and is by no means a poor side back. In fact, he is amongst the best side backs out there. However, that being said, Maicon is easily the best right back available out there. He is one of the few side backs who are equally as lethal in defence as they are in attack. He contributes to all his teams’ attacks by delivering in beautiful crosses from the flanks and taking an occasional shot at the goal which results in something spectacular. He manages to do equally well in defence with his tackling and superior body strength.
He would be greatly welcomed at the Spanish club. He has already won everything that he possibly could with the Italian team and now wishes to repeat the same success with Real Madrid.
Maicon will be a great addition to the already star-studded Spanish squad, who have the likes of Ronaldo and Kaka amongst their ranks. With the addition of Maicon, it seems like Madrid might just edge Manchester City in becoming the most expensive roster of players at a club.
