Inter President Moratti: Mario replaceable
Balotelli’s transfers looks to be confirmed after Inter President Massimo Moratti confirmed that the controversial Italian could leave the club. After winning the Serie A, Copa Italia and the UEFA Champions League last season, Moratti believes that any transgressions off the field by Balotelli were forgiven due to what the team achieved on the field.
Inter’s President also revealed that there were more than one offers for the club to review and a decision would be made soon, keeping in mind the wishes of the player as well as the interests of the club.
Moratti admitted that Balotelli was a talented individual and could go on to become one of the best players in the world but with other such players coming through the ranks, such as Philippe Coutinho, this sale is not likely to weaken the team in any way, since Balotelli was never central to the European Champions’ team.
Balotelli has had a very difficult time in Italy, having a number of problems with former manager Jose Mourinho and the Inter fans. After being suspended from the team by Mourinho for wearing an AC Milan jersey on a TV show, Balotelli threw his jersey on the ground after a Champions League semi final victory at home against Barcelona because the Inter fans had booed his ever touch.
Racially abused when Inter travel across Italy with chants of ‘There are no black Italians’, the young striker has had a troubled time ever since his emergence into the Inter team. Despite his attitude problems and failure to deal with abuse directed at him, Balotelli’s performances on occasion have been nothing short of world class.
The 19 Year old had a number of clubs interested in him but it looked like Manchester City would be the ones to sign him. However, with Moratti revealing that there is more than one offer for him, the young Italian could end up elsewhere, especially if the reported interest from English Champions Chelsea is found to be true.
New manager, Rafa Benitez, it seems has had little power over the transfer of Balotelli after being appointed following the departure of Jose Mourinho for Real Madrid. Benitez had the job of trying to maintain one of the strongest squads and has had to deal with speculation linking a number of players with a move away from the club.
Although Moratti claims that Balotelli’s departure is not going to effect the team negatively, another player who seems to be on his way out of the club, Maicon, was central to the team’s success and his departure is likely to be a strong blow to the side.
With the new season about to start, Benitez will be hoping he manages to complete the transfer business as soon as possible because with the change in management, the players will take some time to get used to the new tactics put in place, especially new ones, and Inter will not want to get off to a slow start as they look to match the achievement from last season.
