Question:

Interchangeability between brands of projector lamps?

I have a Sharp Notevision Projector model XQ-P10XU that the lamp is getting some hours on and I'm looking for a replacement and the cheapest I have found is nearly $400. There has to be an aftermarket lamp that is cheaper than this or one from a different brand that will fit and last just as long but I can't seem to find it. I wouldn't mind spending that much on a lamp if it would last 3000 to 5000 hrs, I just can't see spending $400 on a 1200hr lamp when lamps for other projectors are cheaper and last twice as long as this. This projector is 5 to 8 yrs old and I have only had it for nearly 2 months and the lamp life has gone from 700 hrs to 900hrs. Is there any way of extending the life of this lamp under normal conditions with cooling fans or anything of that nature? Any help is greatly appreciated.

  1. About the only thing you can do to extend the lifeon yuor lamp is to make sure you keep it in Econo Mode and shut down your pj correctly every time.

As far as after market brands go there really isn't anything out there for this particular model so it may be time to get a new one.  I checked this model and it's really more of a business pj with the high lumen but really low contrast ratio.  Plus, with the native resolution only being 1024 X 768 it's not even true 720p HD.  These days you can find an awesome 720p for about $800 or a better SD one than this one for $500 - $600.
