  1. Texture and Scents Paints

Lumpy-wallpaper paste; gritty-sand; slimy-liquid soap that has become thick by standing uncovered for a week, sticky (dries shiny)- white glue, shiny-white glue, rough-fine sawdust, grainy (dries shiny)-glitter, sparkly (crystallizes when dry)-salt (ice-cream, kosher, Epsom, sidewalk, regular.  Do not add salt too far in advance, it will dissolve.

    Feelie Bags

Collect a variety of items from your room such as wooden blocks, plastic dolls, paper cups, and stuffed animals.  Try to find items made of many different materials.  You may want to include sturdy fruits and vegetables such as carrots, apples and oranges.  Place one of these items at a time in a plastic mesh bag (from bulk onion, potato, lemon, or orange purchases).  Give each of the children a chance to feel what’s inside.  Can they guess what it is by feeling?  Encourage them to let their ears and nose guide their guesses, as well.

    Lotion

Use lotion as a sensory activity.  Make sure there are no allergies.Let the children finger paint with tinted lotion on waxed paper.

    Touch and Feel

Create a “Touch and Feel” Box before circle time. Put an object in the box.  (Orange, raisin, carrot).  Show the box to the children.  Tell them that there is something in the box and that you want them to use their senses to guess what it might be.  Give the box to a child and ask him to reach through the hole.  Touch the object, and tell the others how it feels.  That child should pass the box to another child.  Help the child hold the box up to his nose.  Does the object smell?  What does it smell like?  Pass the box to a third child.  Have him roll the object around or shake the box.  What does it the object sound like?  How does the object move?  Let the child pass it to the fourth friend.  That child should peak through the opening and tell the others what the object looks like, for example what color it is, shape, etc.  If the object is eatable, have a piece of it ready for the fifth child to taste.  Have that child cover his eyes and put the sample into his mouth.  How does it taste?  Now that the children have all the clues, let them guess what the object might be.  Slowly open the box and take it out so that all the children can see what it is. If it is a food, have it for snack.  Create a poster of description words that fit the senses… possibly take actual pictures of the children or objects.

Playdough can be scented with Kool-Aid.  You can use the five senses with this matieral very easily and if you make your own you can even taste it...it does not taste very good!

Hope something there will help you out.
