Well im starting to take intrest in cross country but I have second thoughts. I havnent done it before in my life but I have seen people do it. Cross country already started for my school but maybe I can still join or maybe I can join next year. I am a fast runner but I dont know about my stamina. I hav not ran all summer. So basically im not prepared. Will I have a hard time if I join now and maybe I can get the stamina during the practices or should I practice for next year. And for all who participated in cross country is it fun?

  1. I was in the same boat as you. I started cross country training yesterday. I was unsure of whether to do it or just train and then do it next season. But I decided to go for it and that's what I did. The team has been training for 3 weeks now, so I have to work harder. But it is definitely fun and over time you will get better. I think that it is a lot funner to train with a group of people rather than by yourself.

I say go for it... you have to be dedicated and be willing to work like crazy and give 110% at all times. If your willing to do that then you will be good to go.

Your mile time is really good and once you start running more it will get faster.

If you have any questions just ask me!!!!

  2. i am in cross country and we have practice and i say go for it it is a lot of fun you just run and well it depends how late are you in the practices and if you do join it will be hard in the beginning but it gets easier and well i think stamina can be gained over time well it is alot of like one of the other guys said it is hard but it is alot of fun

  3. you're mile time is good. do it this year. just make sure to go to the next practice. practice is to get into shape and then you'll be in the shape for the school year. and yes xc is a lot of fun. usually others runners are really friendly too.

  4. honestly the option of starting training for next year... no. Just join the team, that'd be the best training.

of course its going to be hard...runnings more of a mental than physical sports. You push your mind and body past limits never imagined. But that's the point.

It like when people complain about being too tired to go fast during a race. Well, isn't that the point?

You do it with all your heart, like others have said 110% at all times.

It's the most intense thing out there.

And it's completely true, you get out of it exactly what you put in.

Running is the best thing that has happened to my life..So of course I say go for it. And if the first three weeks suck...then suck it up because it pays off in the end. It pays off sooo much.

another plus is that even though it seems to be less of a team sport because a lot of kids focus on individual goals.. id say in our school, next to the swim team... XC is the closest team there is. You see your teammates through everything... long bus rides to meets, getting lost in trails, puking at the end of the race, the adrenaline rushes at the start line...thick and thin, the list goes on.

as nike would say...just do it.

    :) good luck!

  5. You can join anytime. Most people have lots of people of all different ability and conditioning. There will be someone you can train with.

Cross Country is a demanding sport, but it is the best sport out there

  6. Talk to the cross country coach and see what they think.

  7. I just started HS XC, and let me tell you..IT IS HARD!!!!  But it is also one of the most fun things i have done in the past 3-5 years.  The sport is amazing.  I hadn't been running for very long (1-3 months) but joined anyways.  It is difficult because most of the people on my team are sophomores or higher, or had been running their whole lives.  It takes work, but it is definitely worth it.

  8. What I recommend is you go and talk to the coach.  You will be able to make the j.v team.  Don't wait until next year, you are using valuable time now.  Get to know the guys on the team and show your coach you want to work hard. Get the experience now and next year you will have goals to work towards.
