  1. I would start by talking to a recruiter, he will give you a practice ASVAB test to see if you score high enough to be a aircraft mechanic. Your pay will be based on your rank

  2. In the RAF 3 good GCSEs in Science, maths and english to get in. You also need to get above a certain score on the aptitude test. You then join up complete basic training and then do six months at trade training you the leave as a AMM, (Aircraft Maintenance Mechanic) after two years you go back to training and complete a further course to become either mech or avionics. You can also become an armourer that's about 14 months in a oner. Pay is low pay band until about three years or so £12000 to £15000 or so for first three years, then the pay gets better up to £25000 without being promoted. The promotion in the RAF is very slow alot slower than the navy, but there are more aircraft to work on and more bases to go to and your career can go on for longer in the RAF than the navy if you get enough promotions. The navy are promoted quicker get qualifications through promotion courses but have shorter careers. They also have fewer aircraft and fewer bases.

And yes to join the RAF you would have to be a minor technical genius............ minimum.
