my house has a detached garage, as does my neighbour. i am the end terrace house and would have a better sized garden if i knocked down my garage. the way the houses are set out, each of my neighbours garages stand half in their own garden and half in their neighbours garden. each neighbour owns the land where the garage stands in each neighbouring garden(this is shown on plans i have 4 house) but i am wondering how to go about the process of buying my neighbours garden- IF he will sell it to me and knock down mine....could anyone give me any info on this and how much a garage may be bought/sold 4??? thanks

  1. You need to see a solicitor as this sort of change has to be registered on the deeds and with the land registry.  I woudl expect that it would cost £500 for the legal work, on top of the amount the neighbour woudl want to sell the garage and space.  I woudl be very surprised if he/she will do it as it devalues their house a lot by comparison with others in the street. Maybe ask this question of the neighbour before you start the meter running with your lawyer!
