  1. I recommend kingsnake.com also, their forums rock. Anapsid.com will tell you everything about any basic reptile also, and much more. Both excellent sites.

Overall, I don't recommend aquatic turtles as pets. Unless you're prepared to eventually keep your pet in a 75gallon or more tank or get a pond built in your backyard, a RES is not for you. There are many other reptiles and even amphibians which are easier to care for and can live in a tank as small as a 10 gallon for their entire lives. But if you're willing to make that sacrifice or your housespace, then a RES would be great.

  2. Try http://www.austinsturtlepage.com for cares, and their forum has a Canadians section you can ask at.

  3. Red Ear Sliders are pretty much throwaway pets for most people.. you actually may be able to find one at an animal shelter in your area. Our local shelter always has them..

I had one for a long time, they are interesting, but they do require a lot of tank maintenance.. Not to mention a huge tank...

I prefer land tortoises now as they are much easier to keep in my opinion..

  4. www.kingsnake.com sells turtles at great prices.

  5. theturtlesource.com sells RES, although idk about canada.

have you been to redearslider.com? they have the perfect information for caring for your RES and a forum to ask questions if you have any.

i have a res, they're good pets if you know how to care for them! just know your RES could get to be about 12 inches, so even though yours will be small only get one!
