In its 7th week of the new season, the Barclays Premier league has managed to produce some interesting statistics. With 20 teams battling out for the coveted crown, here’s a look into some interesting facts and figures of last week’s action in
the top flight of English football.
Wolverhampton Wanderers managed only 2 shots on the goal in the entire match against Wigan Athletic.
This is by far the lowest number of attempts by any team in the Premier league season so far. Also, the loss has also equaled their previous club record of four consecutive defeats, last set back in 2004.
Blackburn Rovers 1-0 defeat to Stoke City mean that the side hasn’t scored against Stoke for the past
4 consecutive occasions.
Harry Redknapp has been unbeaten in 9 league matches against Aston Villa, following their 2-1 victory against Villans over the weekend. Redknapp’s last defeat against Villa in the premier league came back in March 2006, when his side Portsmouth
lost 1-0 at Villa Park.
Arsenal has not managed to keep an away clean sheet for the past 11 premier league fixtures. Their last clean sheet came against Aston Villa, back in 27th January.
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has now managed to score each time for the past
13 appearances against Arsenal. Drogba scored the opening goal against Arsenal on Sunday with a back heel, when the Blues defeated the Gunners 2-0 to plunge further top in the premier league.
Mark Hughes’s side Fulham’s draw against West Ham United have made it
14 matches out of 18 in which the former City manager has met a drawn score line. As a manager, Hughes has now drawn 14 out of 18 fixtures, which started last season with Manchester City.
Former Manchester United defender Steve Bruce has not managed to win a single match against former manager Sir Alex Ferguson in
16 attempts. Steve Bruce’s Sunderland managed a 0-0 draw at home on Saturday against Manchester United.
