Question:

Interesting Golf question...

When I play, I keep track of all my stats...GIR, putts, fairways, etc. I had an interesting scenario in league on Wednesday. I drove the green on the first hole a par 4. The pin was cut close to the edge of the green, about 4 paces on. I had a downhill putt, and rammed it past the hole, and it trickled into the fringe. Do I still get credit for the GIR since I was on in 1 but off in two?

  1. To answer your question directly.....you were on the green in regulation

So give your self credit for that. the next shot from off the green no matter what club would be considered a chip.  then count your putts adding the first putt that left the green

  2. it would be a gir b/c you were on it...but all i care about is my score on the hole lol

  3. I would have said that 'yes' you still get credit for the GIR.  The info that I found pretty much confirms my thought.

The second URL has to do with putts and keeping track of that stat.  Basically, any stroke taken when on the green is a putt.  If you're on in regulation and hit your first putt off the green, the next stroke from off the green is not counted as a putt.  Then i.e. your tap-in is a putt.

  4. It's still a green in regulation because you were on the green.

  5. GIR is when your ball is on the green in regulation strokes, so yes, give yourself 1 GIR credit for this one.  As for putts, it would be the number of putts you used WHILE you are on the green, so after you chip the ball back on to the green, you've already 1 putted from your eagle attempt.

  6. Being on the green on your drive or hitting a par 5 in 2 are considered  " greens in regulation " for your purposes and for the pro stats. How then, would you figure your putts for the hole since you were off the green on your second shot?
