Im a big fan of making homemade sushi (nori rolls) and am looking for some ideas of interesting fillings to try.

I generally make them using combinations of crab meat, tuna, avacadoe, cucumber and mayo.

  1. try lagastinos, ther realy tiny lopster tails ,about the size of a kidney bean and there realy sweat!

  2. mayo? gross. i hate when my sushi has mayo. Use cream cheese instead of mayo. it goes great with the avacado... and it's not disgusting.

  3. Who says sushi has to be raw fish?  Think outside the box!  What about BBQ chicken sushi with shredded BBQ chicken, celery and rice?  How about cucumber and cream cheese with fresh dill?  My favorite is rice, ricotta and spinach!

My fiance is Korean and we regularly make sushi with small bits of left overs. Grab some nori and empty the fridge!  Have fun!

Oooo . . .  dessert sushi with sweetened cream cheese and mango slices in rice wrappers!!!

  4. Here are some of my favorites:

    1.  Smoked salmon and cream cheese

    2.  Cucumber and ahi tuna

    3.  Grilled prawns, cucumber, daikon radish

    4.  Tempura prawns, garlic aioli, sprouts

    5.  Tuna, chopped green onion or chives, cream cheese

    6.  Crab meat mixed with chopped green onion, aioli, cucumber and avocado

    7.  Tempura prawns and avocado

    8.  Smoked oysters

  5. pickled daikon or other japanese picked vegetable.  Pre-marintaed tofu, mango.

  6. My fav chicken teriyaki nori rolls

    INGREDIENTS

    Teriyaki sauce

    ¼ cup soy sauce

¼ cup mirin (sweet rice wine)

    2 tablespoons sugar

    2 tablespoons sake (optional)

or just buy a bottle of teriyaki sauce from the supermarket

    Nori rolls

4 boneless, skinless chicken thigh fillets, trimmed

6 cups cooked sushi rice, cooled (from 3 cups uncooked rice)

    8 sheets nori paper

    2 teaspoons wasabi (optional)

    2 carrots, grated

2 Lebanese cucumbers, deseeded and cut into long thin strips

    ½ cup pickled ginger (optional)

    1 avocado, sliced, optional

    Japanese soy sauce, to serve

    Voila!!!

    Enjoy!!!

  7. Try making crunch rolls by purchasing and preparing a box of tempura batter mix, heating a frying pan 1/2" filled with oil, and using a fork to drizzle the mix in.  Stir around as it cooks and drain on paper towels.  Break up with a fork and mix with mayo and a bit of hot sauce.  Good on its own in a roll or paired with avocado (specifically called a sakura roll)
