Question:

Interesting NHLE odds problem?

I was just messing around and I think it's possible to have even more outs than previously thought:

Hand 1: 2s 2d

Hand 2: Kh Qh

Flop and Turn: 3h 3s 10h Js

Outs:

Any heart: 10

King or Queen, not heart: 4

Ace or 9, not heart for the straight: 6

Any ten or jack, not heart, to counterfeit the deuces and give KQ the higher two pair kicker: 6

Total: 26

Is this the highest number of outs?

  1. Your outs were:

    Ah, 4h, 5h, 6h, 7h, 8h, 9h, Jh

    and

    Kc, Ks, Kd

    and

    Qc, Qs, Qd

    and

    Ac, As, Ad

    and

    9c, 9s, 9d

    and

    Tc, Ts, Td

    and

    Jc, Jd

So I count 25 outs, with 46 unseen cards to come (although since you apparently knew the other players cards, it would be 44 unseen cards).

So you win 57% of the time.  Not bad odds when you have a draw and only the river to come.

  2. Any heart=9 , no? 13 minus 4= 9

Not only would the 2h give hand 1 a full house, but the 3h would also.

  3. Ok yes you do have a lot of outs, but if it's before the showdown we don't know what hand the other guy may hold. I try and only give myself outs that are likely good for me. If for example the other guy has a a hand like A-3 your king or queen will be no good if you spike it on the river. Or he may make his straight if he has A-Q etc etc. And if he has a hand like 2 tens we are drawing dead on the river. So never give yourself ever single out, just the ones that you know will make your hand good.
