Interesting Premier League Weekend Talk
Football fans love to give away stats to support their team and ridicule their rivals. Stats can prove what you want them to prove; they are simply there to have fun with. Bettor.com has come up with a few interesting stats for this weekend:
It has to be a draw at Villa Park:
United fans will tell you that they have not lost on road this season and are the only unbeaten side in the league this campaign. However, a Manchester City fan would suggest that United have only won once on their travels this season.
Staying unbeaten for a long run of matches is only good when most of them are wins and not draws. Unfortunately that is not the case for United. They have 24 points from 12 games and if they were to continue at this rate, they will finish the season with
76 points.
Surely not enough to win them the title and interestingly this point tally would have been enough for third place finish last season and fourth for the season before that and the season before that as well. So you know what I mean?
To make things even more interesting, Villa are unbeaten at home this season. This helps me make an easy decision; to put all my money on a draw at Villa Park this weekend.
Manchester City – Why is Yaya the highest paid player in the league?:
Mancini received criticism after he parked his expensively assembled bus at Eastlands to make sure his team does not lose the derby. He was criticised for his lack of ambition in the Manchester derby.
There were interesting facts to notice during the game at Eastlands. Mancini played Yaya Toure in the hole behind the front man, Carlos Tevez. Throughout the game, the Ivorian hardly tried to move the ball forward. Each time City tried to play on the break,
the break was broken down by none other than Yaya Toure.
The most amazing fact to take notice of is that he is the highest paid player in the Premier League, let alone Manchester City.
So why on earth would you pay someone £200,000 per week to either go home when substituted or make life difficult for your own team rather than the opposition. Darius Vassell would be thinking of going to court to get his money back because he had done this
job with reasonable expertise during his time with City but he wasn’t on a payroll of £200,000 per week. Shocking stuff really.
Tottenham need to win:
A quick one here about Tottenham, they haven’t won in their last 4 Premier League matches. A team with aspirations of playing in Champions League next season, this simply isn’t good enough. We agree that they have had a few injuries to key players but then
again who hasn’t.
Chelsea have missed Lampard and Essien for most part of the season, Rooney has been busy with stuff other than football, Torres has been recovering from injuries all season (while playing nearly every game) and Kuyt, Agger and Johnson have been regular absentees.
Do I need to say anything about Arsenal, ok I will just write RVP. Enough said.
Ian Holloway’s strategy = win one and then not win the next two:
At the time of writing, FA are investigating Holloway's decision to make 10 changes to his side for their mid week clash against Aston Villa. His outburst after the match when questioned regarding his decision was even more outrageous.
His aggressive nature and open personality has won him many fans. His team's style of play has been appreciated which has actually brought only 4 wins so far this season. However, they have developed a pattern for this season.
Their record this season has been: won one, not won two, won one and not won two, one won and not won two, one won and not won two. If these amazing stats are to go by anything, then West Ham are in deep trouble, as its time for a win for Ian Holloway's
men.
