Interesting Premier League stats 2010-2011
Although it still is very early days in the Premier League but the season has been full of drama and jaw-dropping action. Only last week we saw Chelsea losing for the second time in a row as Arsenal failed to claim the top spot tin the league but Manchester
United took full advantage of their counterpart’s profligacy.
Here are some very interesting facts from the Premier League season so far;
* Arsenal have played 7 games this season against sides from the top half of the table and they have only won 2 and drawn one, amassing a miserable 7 points from a possible 21.
* Since the 1996-97 season, Arsenal have not lost more than three Premier League games this season but so far 14 games into the season they have already lost 3 games and it is very difficult to see them going through the whole season unbeaten from here on.
*The season is 14 games old and Aston Villa have not won or drawn a single game after conceding a goal first.
* Although these may be dizzy times for Birmingham City as they only beat Chelsea last season but one troubling stat for the Blues is the fact that they have fired fewer shots on goal than any other team in the league this season. Even West Ham who are bottom
of the league table have had more shots on goal than Birmingham this season.
* The win against Chelsea may well be their biggest win of the season but there were more fans watching Norwich V Leeds game in the Championship on Saturday than the one present at St Andrews for the game.
* Blackburn Rovers are averaging 15 fouls per game which is more than any other team in the Premier League this season.
* On Sunday Rover beat Aston Villa 2-0 but only had 37% possession of the ball in the game.
* Blackpool have not lost a single game this season that they have been winning at half time.
* Blackpool have scored more goals from outside the box this season than any other side in the league – 5.
* Johan Elmander has scored 8 goals in 14 Premier League games this season while his last 8 in the league last season took him 55 games to notch up.
* Saturday was the first time that Bolton had scored 5 games in the league since the 2001 season when they scored 5 against Leicester City.
* The loss to Birmingham was Chelsea’s fourth loss of the season and no side in the history of the league has gone onto win the league after losing four matches in their first 14 outings.
*Before the loss to Birmingham on Saturday Chelsea had not lost two matches on the trot for 165 games.
* Everton have scored 16 goals this season but only two have been scored by recognized strikers in their ranks the rest have all come from midfield or defenders.
* The last time Fulham beat a side that was in the top half of the Premier League table was in December 2009 when they beat Manchester United and Fulham have now only won once in their last 10 Premier League games.
* Liverpool have now amassed 13 points from their last 6 games and that record is only bettered by Manchester United in the league who have notched up 14 from the same number of games.
*The penalty that Dirk Kuyt scored in Liverpool’s 3-0 win on Saturday was the 36th penalty to be awarded this season and was only the third time in 36 that a spot kick was aimed towards the centre of the goal and all three times a kick aimed at
the centre of the goal has been succesful.
