Interesting??? Swans v. Melbourne at Manuka Oval?

I was there on Sunday and noticed something strange. I would say without exaggeration that 95% of the play was on one side of the ground only and up the centre. All through that match they were playing down the sunny-side wing and I didn't get it. Anyone else noticed this - anyone in this forum have you been there?? You can hear the players yelling to each other at Manuka. I was close to the Melbourne bench on the shady side of the ground. All very exciting. Go Swans!!

  1. If they were on the sunny side, maybe they were trying to avoid the cold?

In all seriousness, grounds that are one part very shady and another part very sunny are very hard on the players because its hard on the eyes, especially looking up to take a mark. We all know what it's like when we go outside on a bright sunny day without our glasses on, then walk into the house - it takes a very long time for the eyes to adjust.

  2. I watched the game on telly and didnt notice that only one particular side was bein used but the comentaters were calling the non-used side the 'Fat' side...?

Mayb the sunnier side was used more cos it was less slippery? I hope it wasn for the cameras sake, it couldn b ... could it?

  3. **I wasn't at the game and although I watched it on TV I didn't pay much attention.

I'm a Geelong supporter and I remember several years back when most of the play was on one particular side of the ground at the home games in Geelong.

Cast your mind back to when the Telstra Dome (was known as Colonial Stadium at the time) when the ground wasn't in good condition, players were doing injuries etc and I remember there was one particular side of the ground that the players avoided because of it's poor condition.

I don't really think the players would only be playing one side of the ground for the TV, I'd think it was more in their gameplan that they had to stick to or it might have been the condition of the ground.  If one side had the sun all day then the other side may have been wet underfoot, which makes the footy wet.

    Hope this helps you**

  4. ooo yes i was at manuka

it was so funny that you could hear them yelling and if you screamed loud enough they could hear you

I did notice that they went down that one end of the wing most of the game and in the second half it shifted to the opposite wing and yehh go swans

  5. I can't say I noticed that, and I wasn't there, but I did notice that it was very sunny, and some players couldn't even see the ball, or who they were kicking to! I thought it was interesting, lol =)

  6. old style of play, intersting, but not up to standard

  7. I watched the game and I have watched my son play there often in the ACTAFL. It's such a big ground that you have plenty of room down wither wing.

Maybe they thought that it was easier to kick fo goal on that side of the ground

    Go the Swans

  8. are your sure?

how many beers did you have?

i fell asleep as usual when the swans are on tv

  9. nothing interested about this game, the swans play boring defensive footy and the demons I'm afraid to say are pathetic at the moment,  they just haven't really got a light at the end of the tunnel.

  10. bleh. not too interesting
