Question:

Interesting comment...?

Arun Lal made an interesting comment during a discussion about highest wicket takers at test level....when Waqar Younis(i think) praised Murali's achievements and said that it'll be very hard for any other bowler to break his record, Arun replied saying he was sure noone will gt anywhere near 700 wickets in the future...well, apparantly test cricket isnt gonna be played as frequently as b4...........

Will this prevent bowlers from getting ...say 500-odd wickets-a-career? What does the y!a cricket forum think?

What's to become of test cricket?

How long will it last?

  1. There will be less Test cricket after the sucess of the IPL!! And it will be near to impossible for any other bowler to beat Murali's record in the future - but then again no one thought that Kapil Dev's record of 500 wickets all those years ago would've been broken!! U just never know!!

  2. Ajantha Mendis may take 1,000 wickets.

  3. test cricket will last, don't worry... no matter what people think, test cricket is truly a TEST of your cricketing skills and the best game to watch...

  4. I agree with too much involvement in the shorter versions of the game there may not be sufficient room to accommodate test cricket. Their numbers would decline.

  5. FOr 10 more years.

In 15 more theyll invent 10 over cricket.

In 30 years odi will die like test.

in 35 years 5 over cricket will be played.

in 80 years cricket will die

  6. Twenty20 is still in its infancy, and as it is a novelty, it is attracting a lot of attention.

I beleive it would be erroneous of us to say that Twenty20 is not going to mean a downsizing in the number of Test matches being played in the future, hence creating less opportunities to achieve milestones of 500 wickets, 10,000 runs etc.; however, playing fewer Tests will, in my opinion, strengthen the Test format as the matches will become more meaningful.

Test cricket will continue, and eventually interest will be regained in it. We heard all the same arguments back in the 1980's when limited overs cricket became all the vogue.
