Interesting fact on men's draw upper half?

have you noticed that in the men's draw upper half the top seeded players die like flies.

Karlovic (14) out

Blackout - ahem, Blake (9) out

Nalbandian (7) out

Ferrer (4) OUT, biggest upset until now but Nishikori deserved the win !!

who are the opponents of Nadal now? this guy seems to have a never ending luck to go through the final on the cakewalk in most of the majors.

the lower half looks to me like the who's who in tennis. only 2 unseeded players reached the 3rd round.

what do you think about the men's US Open now? (couldn't be more lopsided)

  1. That's an interesting observation.. Nadal has two new players in his half.. Querrey and Nishikori. Nadal is going to win Querrey easy, but with Nishikori it would be an interesting semi final. I would guess being a new guy Nishikori is going to make lot of unforced errors and lose the match to Nadal.

  2. i know!! there's been a fare share of upsets in rafa's side, but i guess he's got luck on his side this year.-

anyway, andy roddick is winning the open.-

    :)

  3. While its true that a lot of the big names in the top half of the draw are out, they are still some dangerous players in the top half. Juan Martin Del Potro, arguably the hottest player of this hardcourt season is still in against the Japanese newcomer Nishikori. That will make a very interesting matchup. Both are young, in my opinion, Del Potro has more experience, as this is the first time Nishikori has been this deep in a major. Other than those two, Monfils has had a resugrent Open, he's come back strong in this tourney, showing that he's resilient and determined to make the most of his enormous talent. You've got to like the Murray-Wawrinka matchup. Both are tremendous hardcourt players, Wawrinka has had the best year in his career, and is now in the top 10, and Murray has beaten Nadal earlier this year on hardcourts, so if he can get to the semi's, he could pose a very dangerous threat to Nadal.

I think it is way to early to write off these guys. The US Open is infamous for its great upsets. Look at Pete upsetting then No.1 Lendl. All of these guys are hungry to take out the "Big Three." I think Nadal definitely has his work cut out for him, he looked in great shape against Troicki, but his legs have taken a beating all year, and now is when the long season will take its toll.
