Although many are easily replaced by subtitute materials, the principal by-products made from various bits of whale include those listed below.  As to "interesting facts," I leave that to your judgment.

*Whale-meat for human consumption;

*Margarine and Cooking oil (from whale oil);

*Candles, Soaps, Cosmetics and Perfumes (from sperm oil);

*Refined food products;

*Animal feed (from meat meal);

*Fertilizer (from bone meal);

*Scrimshaw:  The teeth of the sperm whale, known as sea ivory, is the raw material for ornamental carvings and for the traditional seafaring art of scrimshaw - tooth engraving. The clean tooth was polished and the design then etched in ink for emphasis;

*Carvings from bone;

*Combs from bone and teeth;

*Glue and lubricants...

[The oil from whales can be divided into two catergories: whale and sperm. Whale oil comes from baleen whales and is edible. Sperm oil comes from sperm whales and is inedible.]
