One thing is worth mentioning that the reigning world number one, Novak Djokovic, is the first player to play the event after a gap of 10 years. Last world number one who graced the tournament with his participation was the local
hero Lleyton Hewitt in 2002 and 2003.
Tsonga who is the Top-10 player was excited to play in a tournament with a partner who is capable of making a strong impact. He stated, “It's really good because I will arrive really early to Australia (and) I will be able to play
three matches to prepare for the Australian Open. I heard that they built a new arena similar to Rod Laver Arena, so it's going to be just perfect for me to play, it's going to be fun.”
Verdasco who made his debut in the tournament in the current season was more than pleased to return to the Perth Arena with his partner. He stated, “It was a great experience last year. We reached the semi-finals, beat Australia
(sorry about that) we beat China and then we lost to France. It was a great week and I really enjoyed it there.”
Ivanovic who is the ex-girlfriend of Verdasco will also be in the event teaming up with the best player in the men’s category at the moment. She has made several trips to Perth in her professional career and is looking forward
for another amazing experience along with one of the funniest tennis players. She stated, “You can play mixed doubles and you get to hang out with other players so it's really relaxing and a great way to start the year.”
It will be an interesting event for the viewers especially considering that there is lack of mix doubles tournaments that are usually broadcasted across the globe. It is probably the only mix doubles tournament that receives coverage
from elite sporting channels, hence, making it a very interesting tour for all athletes. All teams are capable of registering a victory against their competitors, therefore, no clear cut favourites are at the picture apart from the Serb duo of Djokovic and
Ivanovic.
