Our daughter, aged about six, scandalised the assembled company by saying in her very posh voice, 'You silly old woman! I'd like to throw you out of the window!'

Irish ancestry makes itself felt!

  1. Good for her! I remember the sheer arrogance of the phrase "My people of the Commonwealth of Australia..."

  2. The queen looks a million bucks green and wrinkled.

  3. I was once years  ago pointedly corrected over my pronunciation of the word "formidable", with the stress on the "o". by people who stressed the "i".  I felt very abashed until the Queen very kindly used the word in her Christmas broadcast (what are the chances of that happening?!!) and pronounced it in the same way as I did!  I only hoped that my detractors were listening and taking note!  It is, after all, the Queen's English!

  4. The queens speech and interesting in the same sentence ?  I never thought I would see that happen. lol
