Interesting news after sonogram...what do you think?

Ok. I'm 36 weeks and 2 days today according to my doc. They gave me a sonogram today and here are the results.

1. Completely closed cervix- no signs of early labor.

2. The baby is measuring 7lbs and 12oz. [the average is 6-6.5lbs] [plus the sonogram could be up to a lbs off]

3. He is [and has been for weeks] in Transverse/breech position. [meaning hes sideways and his feet are over my v****a.[but hes very long so theres not a good chance he'll move into head down position.

4. His head is measuring 35 and at 37 they will usually c-section cause theres risks of getting his shoulder stuck etc. [plus my pelvic bones are a little on the smaller side.]

SO. They said if he gets ANY bigger [most likely] and/or doesn't change position then there gonna schedule a c-section around 39 weeks.

Has this sort of thing happened to anyone else?

Has anyone ever had the baby move into position despite them being too big/long?

Any advice?

  1. i cant comment on the turning as both my kids have been head down, however as to the size of them and the chances of shoulders being stuck...my first was 7lb 7.5oz and no problems except he had his hand own his head as i delivered and my second son who was 8lb 13oz and had worried the midwives was delivered slowly and with the assistance of my knees being pushed up to my shoulders to assist the opening of the pelvis...

they avoid c-section unless they absolutely need to...even breech births can be delivered naturally as my sister had one....good luck

  2. I would start to mentally prepare yourself for the very real possibility that your going to have a c-section, prepare to get extra help around the house if you can, and know that recovery will be a bit longer due to the major surgery

  3. I had a 9lb 9oz baby and he turned.  He waited until the very last minute, of course, but he did it.  And I was tiny and didn't have to get a c-section.  Doctors usually try to avoid that unless they have to.  The nurses had me do some back and forth thing with my bum up in the air while I was in labor and that is what made him turn.
