Question:

Interesting problem with Excel opening docs........?

WinXP, SP3 running Excel 2003.

Excel opens quick, and from within Excel, documents open instantly.

But, when an Excel Document on the Desktop is double-clicked on, it takes about 2 minutes to open.

I've done the check disk, defrag, super clean, virus/spyware scans, uninstall/reinstall, file type associations, etc. Nothing.

Thoughts?

  1. it sounds as if it's a network issue but from your description of the problem I don't know if you're on a network or not.  Also you don't mention if this happens with just Excel or any does it happen with  other files too (like Word or anything else you double-click on your desktop)?

Check out this message forum topic...sounds very much like what you're experiencing and some of the suggestions that others have tried might work for you.

  2. It's Microsoft.  Go figure.  I've never had that problem myself.  The only thing I can think of to tell you is just open Excel, then open the file from within Excel.
