Interesting stats and numbers from the Premier League season so far
The Premier League season is only seven games old and as the teams go for an international break this week it’s time to have a look at some of the most interesting facts and figures of this season.
Here is a list of some interesting stats and numbers:
Arsenal
Arsenal have scored 16 goals this season compared to Chelsea’s 23 but when it comes to shots on target Arsenal lead their London rivals having fired 68 shots compared to Chelsea’s 57.
Jack Wilshere completed a staggering 64 passes in the game against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge but could not manage a single shot on goal.
Alexander Song is number 3 on the list of people, who have conceded the most number of fouls, only behind Kevin Davies of Bolton and Andy Carrol of Newcastle.
Aston Villa
Aston Villa have conceded the most number of fouls in the Premier League this season 118, but have not picked up a single red card in the season so far and have collected 14 yellows.
John Carew concedes a foul every 21 minutes that he spends on the pitch. Even Bolton’s Kevin Davies does not foul that often. Carew is the top of that list with Davies and Song following close.
Villa have just won three out of six matches this season and all the three teams that have suffered a defeat against the villains are in the bottom three of the Premier League.
Birmingham City
Birmingham City have not won more than twice in the last 17 Premier League games and the victories came against Burnley and Blackburn.
Birmingham failed to fire a single shot at goal in their match against Everton at the Goodisson Park.
Cameron Jerome has the worst shots to goals ratio in the league having just scored one goal from 15 shots.
Blackburn Rovers
Blackburn failed to test Thomas Sorenson a single time in their game against Stoke last week, none of their shots were worthy of putting Sorenson to test.
In the 90 minutes that Mame Briame Diouf spend on the pitch against Blackburn last Sunday he could only muster 13 passes only 8 of those were accurate while the striker failed to fire a single shot on or off target.
Michel Salgado is the best defender in the League this season if judged by tackle success rate, he has won more tackles than anyone else in the league. On an average he wins every 1.6 out of every two tackles the he makes.
Blackpool
Matt Gilks has made more saves than any other goalie in the Premier League this season. His 35 saves are just a shade better than Petr Chehc’s 30.
Luke Varney has only played five games for the Seasider’s this season and has 2 goals and three assists to his credit, perhaps his most important goal was the winner against Liverpool last weekend.
Bolton Wanderers
Bolton have had 66 shots on goal this season and 33 of those have been on target, Only Chelsea and Newcastle have better accuracy than the trotter in the League this season.
Kevin Davies has conceded 28 fouls in the 6 games that he has played this season, averaging more than 4 fouls per game.
Chelsea
Such is the impact of Didier Drogba that he has played 13 matches against Arsenal and scored 13 goals.
In the last 8 games against Manchester United, Arsenal and Liverpool, Chelsea have won all 8 of them
Everton
Everton is the fairest team in the league as they have only six bookings in the season so far.
