Interim coach Romeo Crennel eyeing permanent job with Kansas City Chiefs – NFL News
The news out is that Kansas City Chiefs’ Interim coach Romeo Crennel has his eyes glued for the permanent slot of Head Coach.
He made his intention public while talking to the media on Tuesday which was his first public speaking since he took over as the interim coach.
"There were no conditions to this. I want to try to be helpful in this situation, and I knew one of the ways I could be helpful was to be the interim coach." Crennel said.
Crennel has experience working as the head coach for Cleveland Browns. While working for the Browns, Crennel enjoyed initial success that saw him gain a contract extension but was relieved the next year after his team declined
to a 4-12 performance. When Crennel left Browns he was determined to be a head coach again and talked of his “competitive nature” and “competitive energy” with which he said he will prove it.
"I know how to get it done and I think the experience will make me better." Crennel said.
Crennel who wants consideration for the post of coach is undoubtedly one of the best defensive coordinators in the league. The Chiefs’ defence under Crennel has turned out to be their biggest strength over the past two seasons.
Crennel was appointed interim coach after Todd Haley was sacked on Monday. He will now serve the Chiefs for the remaining three games. The future prospect of Crennel depends a lot on how he performs during the remainder of the
season for the Chiefs. If he can manage to get the Chiefs through an excellent performance, he is likely to get the chance.
Kansas City general manager Scott Pioli said that Crennel would get a chance to appear in the interview for the slot of Head Coach.
"I know the respect Romeo commands in the locker room," Pioli said. "We talked with Romeo and I think he's someone we're definitely going to be talking to."
Crennel faces a challenge from the injuries that have plagued the Chiefs. The Chiefs have lost their key players Matt Cassel, Jamaal Charles, Tony Moeaki and Eric Berry as a result of injuries.
Among the other contenders for the post of Head Coach are the St. Louis Rams Josh McDaniels and Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz.
