I'm definitely going to do a summer musical theatre program next year, but I've been debating whether I should do Interlochen, OCU, or Stage Door Manor. I have friends that have loved all three and want to know which one will give me my money's worth of learning and experience.

  1. Interlochen people speak often about how it affected them the rest of their lives for the better. It is intense but in such a beautiful place it is calming and energizing at the same time. I worked there many years during the summers and then at the school for 3 years in a row. It is still with me many years later. It is not just a place, but something that will drive you, propel you towards what you want. Yet you will be the better for it. There is so much joy there in the theater people, SO much fun, and such a good quality of work. There is acceptance of all types of creativity, freedom from mundane things like "what should I wear to impress people today?" and teachers who love the place so much they are called "lifers' because they return again and again. It is an instant credibility builder to have it in your background too. The setting cannot be beat. Do you like woods, water, hearing people who LOVE their arts area be so fulfilled and getting to live among them for a summer? how about that for a group of friends--much less of the petty stuff we all need an escape from. Your creativity and technique will grow in leaps and bounds. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts there. Just do it.

  2. Interlochen, hands-down.
