Question:

Intermittant power down

This problem actually started two years ago. Took it to the local shop and cooked it for two weeks--no recurrance. Then a week ago, started again. Thought I might have faulty AC outlet and changed recepticles. Seemed to help for a week, then started again.Symptoms: Set will spontaneously loose video and sound, displaying only a green raster with retrace lines for 1-2 seconds. Then shuts down (relay click is audible). On rare occassions it will spontaneously power back up within seconds. But most times, it requires restart with the remote (power button works equally well). The restart could last for hours, or (more recently) the problem resurfaces immediatly. From the web traffic on this subject it seems to be quite common with Sony Wega's. Unfortunatly among all the complaints, I find no solutions.Year's ago, in the old tube world, I did a little TV repair work. So, I ordered up a SAMS (#4933) on this unit and believe from reviewing the schematic that the problem would most likely be on the "G" Board (power supply/degauss). And while I acknowledge the possibility of a cold solder joint, the cost of a replacement board is around $150. Since I no longer have any test equipment, just looking for some forum support that my "hunch" is a good enough bet to spend $150 on.I should also mention that I taped over the IR sensor, just to insure no spurious input was turning off the set--made no difference.Any suggestions most appreciated. This has been driving me nuts for two years.
