Internal Hard drive in carry-on??

hello. i sold my laptop in pakistan and will be returning back to the US (san francisco). I took the internal hard drive out. Can i put it in my carry-on or purse?

is the security screening and x-ray going to damage/erase my data?

i will be flying on emirates to london and then london to sfo on united.

Did the screening or x-ray damage it when you took the computer to Pakistan? Jeez.
