Question:

Internal Monologue (The Green Mile)

Hey all

I'm doing an internal monologue based around Eduard Delacroix from Stephen King's Novel (and film) 'The Green Mile'

I need to give him a much clearer "voice" and explore his thoughts, feelings, motivations, internal conflict, and views on events that have happened

The task is an imaginative text so it can be made up to some extent.

Any advice/help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Thanks

  1. I'm not very good at things like this, and I've kind of forgotten some things from the book, but off the top of my head, consider these points:

    1) He lead a sad, rejected life. Perhaps out of sheer boredom and unsatisfactory with his life, his suppressed emotions burst out and he raped a little girl.

    2) He was horrified, anxious, paranoid and terribly messed up in the head after doing it. Before he even excercised self control, he had set fire and killed 6 other people. His feelings of guilt and terror stopped him from thinking rationally.

    3) He was perhaps filled with guilt after being thrown in jail and after his mind cleared.

    4) He had no true friends until an abnormally clever mouse came along and took interest in him. For once, someone/someTHING, viewed him as someone special enough to hang around with.

    5) He loved the mouse like a son and is blinded to the rest of the world. This is evident when he keeps calling the guards over to see his mouse trick every 5 mins, even though it might ave been blatantly obvious the guards dont really care.

    6) He has never given or recieved love before, and so he gave as much love as he could for the mouse because he knew his time is limited.

    7) Percy is a monster who doesnt care where he strikes his baton. He is utterly horrified of this monstrous being

    8) Living in his cell is miserable, and when exciting things happen, he is left out of it. He must feel very frustrated.

Needless to say, the constant reminder of the fact that he's going to be executed haunts him until he dies.
