Internal transmisson failure?

My mechanic told me that my 96 bmw 328is transmission needed to be repaired. I have did so research and i have read many transmissions in theses cars go out. I was just wondering is it the Brand of the transmission? and What would be the best transmission to get if there is or may be a performance one or something? Car only have 67,000 miles on it.

That's not very many miles... for a transmission to be bad.. Can you tell us what its doing to make YOU think it is bad. Slipping, hanging up in gear, not shifting.. It might just need a fluid and filter change, If you do opt to have it repaired I'd make sure and stop by unannounced and make sure he is repairing it and not just changing the filter and fluid..

Do you trust the mechanic? or does he need a new car..
