  1. Northwest Airlines and Cathay Pacific both charge for children even when they are below 2 years of age or will not be occupying a seat (ex. will sit on lap of adult accompanying them). This is now being called the Infant Fare. Philippine Airlines  has a greatly reduced rate (90% off regular adult fare) for infants less than 2 years old, but they are not entitled to a seat. They also require a birth certificate when purchasing a ticket for the infant. To be sure, it would be best to call up or go online at the airline that you will be using to find out their policy regarding this. It is also more advisable to do your inquiries and booking for your child way in advance to ensure no delays in your travel plans.

  2. Most international flights DO charge for nfants.  Even  when infants fly free...you must give their names to the airline as they must be registered on the passenger manifest.  Others are corret...you need to CALL the airline and ask.

  3. Hi,

I strongly suggest you do it beforehand by contacting the airline. And get the ticket in your possesion before travelling.

Many sites do not have any option of adding infant and hence when you get an e-ticket there is no record for the infant travelling with you.

I have travelled with my  yr old, and it never caused any problems to just take him along on domestic flights. Just informing at the check-in was all that i needed.

But, On international flight i had a lot of trouble getting him added to or booking. Some airlines have strange rules like paper ticket is a must for infants for some.

I had travelled from India to USA with a stopover at London. HAd no problems getting my baby added while in India, But I had to wait 2 hours in London just to get my baby added! I had paid the full amount for him, i had e-tickets for everyone else and the airline i travelled by insisted that we must have a paper ticket for my baby! It seems such a common sense thing to just add him as he does not need a seperate seat or even bassinet. But still i had to go thr' a lot of hassle to get the booking :(  Kuckily my halt there was about 5 hours and i did not have any problem in my further flights.

So please ensure what all thing you need for the infant travelling for your first flight as well as connecting flights if any.
