International Adoption - I'm living in US temporarily?

Can anyone give me details of UK International Adoption Agencies. I am a UK citizen living in the US. I am finding it difficult to find a US agency to represent us. I am therefore going to research some UK agencies but am not coming up with much on google.

  1. My parents were Brits living in the USA and they had no trouble adopting me (an American baby) Have you asked the Family Division at the Dept of Social Services

In the UK this place will probably answer any questions you have

    http://www.baaf.org.uk/

  2. Sorry, why do you want to adopt elsewhere?

  3. I'm sorry, but it is not possible for you to adopt internationally and bring your child into the U.S., even temporarily. This goes against U.S. immigration law.

If you are a foreign national (not a U.S. citizen) you can bring in an adopted child if the child was your child when you were granted a visa. But you cannot apply to adopt the child and then bring the child into the U.S. under U.S. international adoption law.

I don't think a U.K. agency can help you. Also, from what I understand, the U.K. beauracracy which deals with this is MUCH more difficult to deal with than the U.S. agencies.

Also, to the woman who said her British parents adopted her while living in the U.S., - she was not adopted internationally, but domestically in the U.S. That IS possible, and some British citizens adopt in the U.S. who don't even live here. It's not common, but it happens.

  4. You certainly can adopt in the US - just not an international adoption.  We are UK citizens living in the US and just brought home baby boy through domestic adoption.  We were on a visa when we started although we now have our green card, it doesn't actually make any difference.
