  1. Why would you adopt from China when there are perfectly good babies here that need homes?  Plus if you adopt over seas it is really expensive, and you can't bring the child home until they are at least 6-12 months old.  I have adopted twice from the states.  The agency I used allows you to pick what kind of race you want your child.  Here is the website.  Check it out.  They don't care how old you are, if you are married, single, g*y, straight etc.

  2. I'm an adoption social worker, I don't recall China having age restrictions, but I haven't done international in 4 years.  Poland did.

Contact an agency...laws change all the time!

  3. Find  social services around your area they should be able to help...good luck

  4. Rules and regs from each country change frequently.  Go out to WACAPs website - they do adoptions from may countries and have for years.  They'll have the current info.  Then look around for the "right" agency for you.

My husband was 45 and I was 35 13 years ago when we adopted from China - at that time they PREFERRED older parents.

  5. I am considering it too. I think it is a great thing. I have 3 cousins who were adopted from china, and their parents were in their 40's also a cousin/male from Korea who was adopted when they were close to 50. ( He was special needs so they might have been more lenient with the rules) I have heard though from china that you cant be more than 30% overweight or they wont consider you healthy enough to adopt. And dont feel pressure to adopt from here vs. another country, you know what is in your heart and right for you and your family so go with it! Good luck!

  6. My little sister is from China!!  You should deffinitly adopt from there.  My mom was 37 and my dad 43.  You are not too old.  I'm really happy that we did because I love her more than anything and she is a gift from god!

  7. my little brother is adopted from guetamala. he is the coolest person i know... even if hes 4 years old. it took 9 months from beginning to end... only because my parents had to get there marriage certificates... but yeah you dont even have to go to the country but if you do then when you bring her/him back shell automatically  be an american but if the agent brings her back youll have to get her papers and request her to become an american citizen. guetamala is a great place to adopt from.

  8. We adopted a sibling group from Liberia.

I think China does have some age restrictions, but I'm not sure.  I know they are going through some revisions of their program.

Try the book "How to Adopt Internationally."  Make sure you get the most recent version.  It takes you step-by-step through the entire process as well as offers country-specific information.

Congratulations to you.  EVERY child deserves a loving home.

  9. I was adopted when I was year old from South Korea, and I have a little sister who was adopted from China, and my Mom was 46 when they adopted her. So I don't think you need to worry about age. When you adopt from China the process is usually pretty quick from the time you sign up and have your home study and everything, it can take less then a year. If you volunteer for a special needs child, which my sister was, because she needed open heart surgery, your wait can be as little as 6 months. The only country that currently has an age limit is Korea, and I believe you can't be over 40 years of age. Keep in mind that they do do a physical usually before you can adopt, to make sure you're in good health..

Good Luck. Adoption is amazing & it builds families!
