International Adoption questions?

Just wondering how old a couple must be in order to adopt internationally. I know this varies amongst countries--I'm looking for as many nations as possibe in your answers.

Also, what kind of financial investment is required? What is the average cost of fees etc.--what nation(s) are the least expensive? Most expensive?

Hello,

In many foreign countries the adoptive mom can be up to 50 years old.  The father has less strict rules.   In Kazakhstan, the expense to adopt is just under 40K.  If you have questions let me know, JHAdoption.org

I def. varies by country. Figure between 20-35 thousand...that includes ALL fees, paperwork, and airfare, hotel, etc. Guatemala is on the high end cost wise, China and Vietnam are on the low end. Each country has totally different rules on things like whether singles can adopt, age of parents, income, weight of parents, previous divorces, disabilities, etc. Right now, Guatemala is iffy because of noncompliance with Hague. Russia is limiting adoptions now. China has a very long wait and some new rules. Korea has strict rules as do some S. American countries like Nepal. Vietnam is a solid program, but the wait is growing because of China..and it's one of the few countries still allowing singles to adopt. Ethiopia's program is starting to really take off. The word is that India's is about to....right now it's hard to get through. There are also many, many small programs like Taiwan, Haiti, etc. Good luck!!!

It really does vary by country.  We adopted from Taiwan.At the time it cost approx $20,000 in fee & traveling.   The age limit is at least 20 yrs older than the child and up to 50 years old for the parent.  They also ask that couples be married at least 5 yrs.  Other countries do not have this requirement.
