International Boxing Federation orders Joseph Agbeko vs. Abner Mares rematch – Boxing news
The International Boxing Federation has ordered an immediate rematch between Joseph Agbeko and Abner Mares, as the Federation believes it was not a fair play that took place between both pugilists.
The IBF has ordered the rematch must take place within the next 120 days or by December 4, 2011.
The Mexican, Abner Mares, recently secured a unanimous points’ victory over the King Kong, Joseph Agbeko, to claim the IBF title in the Bantamweight ‘Winner Takes All’ Tournament Final on Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino
in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Though it was an enthralling battle, the referee Russell Mora was seen ignoring numerous low blows, which later on resulted in a lot of controversies as many people declared it as a foul play.
Therefore the promoter, Don King, is also very delighted with the step IBF has taken. King told the media he is very pleased as the federation took no time is realising it was a foul play. He stated Russell Mora should have deducted Mares’ point’s but he
did not and violated the rules.
King remarked, “I am pleased to see that the International Boxing Federation, the organization that sanctioned the world championship match between IBF champion Joseph Agbeko and Abner Mares on Saturday at the Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas,
took such swift action in ordering an immediate rematch.”
He added, “They wasted no time in determining that Russell Mora, the referee assigned to Agbeko vs. Mares, was in violation of their rules by displaying “inappropriate conduct” for ignoring repeated low blows against my fighter, Joseph Agbeko.”
In the end, King added he will be looking forward to giving both the combatants a fair playing field in order to enable them to show their best boxing skills.
Let us hope this time we see a fair play between both boxers, as it also affects the image of the sport globally.
