International Cricket Council Intercontinental Cup - Canada v Afghanistan – 2nd Day’s play cancelled – Cricket News Update
In the ongoing International Cricket Council Intercontinental Cup between Canada and Afghanistan, play was cancelled on the second day of the match without bowling an over due to heavy showers at Maple Leaf North-West Ground, King City.
The decision to abandon the match was taken by umpires Gregory O'Brian Brathwaite from the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 after carrying out several inspections of the field.
In the four day game, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Afghanistan-c745 posted 293 runs on the board in their first innings on the first day of the match.
After winning the toss, Canada put Afghanistan into bat, hoping to make early inroads to put pressure on a team which does not have much experience of playing cricket outside the subcontinent.
However, after loosing the openers early in the day, the Afghan team showed great resolve and strength of character by batting magnificently well against the Canadian bowlers as the team from North America failed to send a ripple in the middle-order batting
line-up of Afghanistan which seemed to be in an astounding form.
On the first day, Afghanistan showed that they have depth in their middle-order as most of the batsmen handed a heavy beating to the opposition which took the benefit of wining the toss away from Canada.
Among the batsmen who gave a commendable show included http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mirwais-Ashraf-c1971
Shahzad played a superb innings of 56 runs off 57 deliveries, while Shenwari clobbered a gem of an innings by knocking 70 runs in the match to help his side post a respectable tally.
Meanwhile in the bowling department Afghanistan’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Hamid-Hassan-c1524 left everyone awestruck when he took four wickets in Canada’s first innings which left the batting side mutilated and wounded, restricting them to 21 runs at stumps.
On day three, Canada will have to bat with naked aggression if they want to win the game, otherwise they will just have to play tentatively to retain wickets and end the game on a draw.
