International Cricket Council confirms England as host for ICC World Cup 2019
The International Cricket Council has confirmed England as the host of the ICC World Cup 2019.
The announcement was made in a press conference held by the ICC President Sharad Pawar and ICC Chief Executive http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 on Monday.
This will be the fifth time that England has been honoured by the world’s cricketing body to host cricket’s most prized tournament. Previously, England has hosted the quadrennial event in 1975, 1979, 1983 and 1999. This will be the 12th World
Cup in the history of the sport.
According to reports, England abstained from bidding for the hosting rights of the ICC World Cup 2015 which is scheduled to be held in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754, after which the next World Cup event was awarded to them.
The last World Cup in England was praised for its commendable organisation and many believe that the event will be superbly arranged in 2019 as England is the only country which has the maximum experience of successfully hosting the event.
However, the announcement came at the cost of elimination of the associate members as the ICC confirmed that the World Cups in 2015 and 2019 will feature only 10 teams in order to make it more exciting for the viewers.
According to the ICC, a new qualifying system will also be introduced in One Day Internationals. An ICC statement regarding the matter said, “It was also agreed that post the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 there will be promotion and relegation introduced in
the ODI League.”
The move by the ICC to eliminate the associate teams has been criticised by the minnows, arguing that this would not help in the expansion of the game in the world. However, many in the sport’s governing body believe that the associate teams have not lived
up to expectations as the four teams failed to go beyond the group stage in the ICC World Cup 2011.
It was only http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 that caused an upset by defeating England in the group matches but they too failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the tournament. The associate teams will however feature in Twenty20 World Cups.
The ICC president praised the recently concluded ICC World Cup 2011 for its organization and termed it one of the most successful World Cups in the history of the game.
The tournament was hosted by http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747. The mega event was won by India for the second time in their history. This was the first time that a host team has succeeded in winning the World Cup.
“The tournament reinforced the attraction of 50 over cricket and showed the enthusiasm and excitement generated by nation v nation cricket. There is no doubt that this event has been a great advertisement for ODI cricket,” said the ICC president.
