International Cricket Council refuses to interfere in James Sutherland concern – Cricket News
The Pakistan Cricket Board sources said that the International Cricket Council has refused to interfere in the issue of Cricket http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 chief executive, James Sutherland’s statements about match-fixing.
A top PCB source, told that the ICC has rejected the impression that it has not yet replied the PCB’s complaint over Sutherland’s remarks. The ICC officials further claimed that it has already sent a reply to Lahore on April 27.
However, the ICC has rejected to intervene on this issue between two cricket boards.
Until last week, the sources of PCB were claiming that they have not received a reply from the ICC of their complaint over Sutherland’s comments that the spot-fixing scandal last year might not have happened if the Board had implemented all the recommendations
of a pivotal report into match-fixing.
After that the PCB protested to take action against Sutherland’s remarks. Sutherland said in an interview, “In the context of what happened last year I think it is really important to read his (Judge Qayyum’s) full report but also his recommendations.”
He further explained, “If you have a look at the recommendations, ask yourself whether http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board actually went through and implemented all those recommendations. Well, I can’t say for sure but I would have big question marks about whether those
things would have happened last year if those recommendations were fully implemented.”
He also suggested that all the countries must be vigilant over the corruption issue. He indicated that many years back Qayyum recommended punishment for Pakistan’s former batsman, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Salim-c88143 Malik, along with the term, to make sure that corrupt cricketers were
kept out of Pakistan cricket and that this was a good initiative.
PCB showed their anger over Sutherland’s comments. However, the PCB wrote to the ICC, “As a member country of the ICC and holding an important position in Cricket Australia, such kind of public statement against another ICC member is highly objectionable
and the PCB wants the ICC to take action against Sutherland according to the prescribed rules.”
According to Sutherland, Justice Qayyum himself admitted last year that the PCB had not been strong enough in implementing some of his 30 recommendations on controlling match-fixing.
