Pakistan’s former one-day skipper, Shahid Afridi, has reiterated that he has not http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 Cricket Board
(PCB).
The 31-year-old all-rounder, while giving an interview to a Pakistani channel said, “Pakistan is my identity and whatever I am today is because of this country.”
The former skipper insisted that the environment within the board was not conducive for him to continue his international career under the current regime.
On May 31, 2011, Afridi, after being stripped from the captaincy of Pakistan, opted to retire from International cricket as he felt humiliated and dejected by the actions of the board in response to his reservations regarding the touring management in the
selection of the playing eleven during Pakistan’s tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760, where Afridi led the national team in the five-match one-day series which was won by the tourists 3-2.
However, the loss in the final two games was pinned on the uncompromising behaviour of Afridi in a report sent by the team manager http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ijaz-Butt-c64128, opted to replace Afridi with Test skipper
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Misbah-ul-Haq-c1972 in the shorter version of the game.
Afridi, on the other hand was retained in the national squad for Pakistan’s tour of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 where the men in green played two One Day Internationals (ODIs). However, Afridi deeming it as an insult, pulled out of the tournament and later announced his retirement.
Afridi’s retirement shocked the cricketing world as he was considered as one of the most successful skippers in Pakistan cricket. His record as the captain of the national team was exceptional during the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World Cup 2011, where a meagre Pakistani team
which lacked in backup players and potential match winners, managed to shock the rest of the world by qualifying for the knock-out stage, where they met arch rivals http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in the semi-final, which finally ended their world cup campaign.
Nonetheless, in the group matches, the Afridi-led Men in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, which showed that the team was being led in a sensational way under the aggressive captaincy of the hardest hitter of the ball.
On the other hand, Butt, seems less concerned over the retirement of Afridi and is looking forward to a Pakistani squad without the presence of Shahid Afridi.
