International Football: Capello in no hurry to name the English coach
In the aftermath of England’s World Cup disaster, Capello has lately submitted to pressure that was applied on him by F.A and the Italian has agreed to include a new English coach in his managerial squad. England’s performances at the 2010 FIFA World Cup were abysmal, as they only scored two goals in four matches. England drew their first two matches, with U.S.A and Algeria respectively.
In their third match against Slovenia, they managed to scrape a one goal to nil win. In the round of sixteen, England played their rivals Germany. The match eventually ended in England’s demolition as the Bavarians ran out winners by four goals to one.
After the World Cup debacle, F.A were in a difficult position as several sections of the British media called for Capello’s dismissal as the English national team manager. However, F.A took a sensible decision of retaining the former Juventus coach. Capello’s new deal which was agreed upon after England’s World Cup disaster runs till 2012. Capello’s next target with England is qualification for the next European Championships which are scheduled to be held in 2012.
Capello has already given signals that imply a cleanup operation in the English national team camp is on the cards. Capello is all set to ditch some of the old guard which includes the likes of Rio Ferdinand, John Terry, David James, Jamie Carragher and Gareth Barry.
Recently, Club England’s managing director Adrian Bevington told F.A’s official website that Fabio has still to give a tentative list of possible employment options with regard to the new English coach. He said that the list is likely to be produced after Fabio holds a meeting with Sir Trevor Brooking at the start of next month i.e. August.
He also confirmed that, Fabio had agreed to include another English coach in his team. He also added that F.A was pleased to hear this from the England’s manager because they wanted to take the team forward with a larger pool of English coaches in Capello’s setup.
Adrian also made it clear that any speculation which occurs now has no solid basis. Bevington said that, any speculation regarding possible candidates for the job cannot be made with any real conviction because Capello has yet to give F.A his preferred list to people for the job, while the F.A themselves have not had their say on the subject as well. Club England’s managing director also told the website that, any new coach that will be added to Capello’s coaching squad will not be trained by the Italian to take over from him in around two years time.
Adrian also stated that Fabio’s initial contract with the F.A allowed for both parties to part ways after the World Cup was not without a financial penalty. He also added that, F.A’s immediate responsibility was that they deployed a long term plan which will allow the English national football team to achieve success in the future at international football tournaments.
