International Football: Jordan Henderson working hard to learn as Tony Pulis comments on friendly matches
Jordan Henderson has come out and stated his intent to improve as England lost to France, in a match which saw the young Sunderland player make his debut on the international stage for the Three Lions. England were totally outplayed by
France in the night as the French won by two goals to one in the end. However, it was a good experience for the young players involved for England like Henderson.
Jordan who has impressed thus far with his performances for Sunderland in the English Premier League spoke to the press after the match as he was a part of a midfield which struggled to cope with the likes of Gourcuff and Malouda. Speaking
about the match, Henderson said, "It's a little bit difficult compared to what I'm used to. It's my first cap but I'll learn a lot from the game and I'll keep pushing on and doing well and get another chance. I think I can do a bit better going forward and
influencing the game. I've taken a lot out of the game and (learned from) the top-class players that are in France's team."
Henderson also commented on his first English experience in front of a sold out Wembley stadium. He said, "It was a really good feeling. I couldn't wait to get out there and just play, really. It's a massive achievement but I don't just
want one cap. I want to keep building on it and hopefully I can do that."
Henderson played in an England team which also included other youngsters such as Kieran Gibbs from Arsenal and Andy Carroll from Newcastle United. Capello gave a healthy run out to the English youngsters. Jordan spoke about his fellow
team mates as he remarked, "I think Andy and Kieran played really well and have done for their clubs. So it's encouraging for the young lads and there's a lot of talent in the under-21s as well."
In other news, Tony Pulis has come out and spoke his heart out on the subject of international friendly matches in between the club football season. Tony said, "For full-blooded international games, proper games when they are qualifying
for a major tournament, then there is no problem with sending the players away. There is nothing better than playing for your country but that is in proper games not friendly matches and I think it has shown again on Wednesday night with the team Capello played.”
Pulis added, "He (Fabio Capello) has played a lot of young players and given people a chance but they are like pre-season games. If they want to do friendly matches then they should pay the wages and if they come back injured they should
look after all of that. I think that would see friendly games dramatically subside. What did they get at Wembley, 85,000? That is helping to pay for the stadium as much as anything else in my opinion."
Pulis’s Stoke City side won on the weekend against Liverpool at the Britannia Stadium by two goals to nil and they face West Bromwich Albion at the Hawthorns’ Stadium at the coming weekend in their next Premier League match.
