International Football News: Brain Flynn interested in Welsh youth development as England might face Ghana in March 2011
Brain Flynn has come out and stated that he is still interested in managing the youth setup in place in Welsh football rather than go for the senior team job which has recently opened up. Wales parted ways with their manager John Toshack earlier on in autumn
and they are still to find a replacement for the ex-Real Madrid man. Flynn took temporary charge of the Welsh team for their EURO 2012 qualification games against Switzerland and Bulgaria. However, both the games ended in defeat for the Welsh team, something
that was not what Flynn had anticipated.
Speaking on his experience with the Welsh senior team for their matches against Bulgaria and Switzerland, Flynn the 55 year old manager said, "I enjoyed it very much, it has just whetted my appetite for more." Flynn, who originally managed the Welsh U-21
squad, also recently suffered a defeat to Switzerland as well.
Brian added to his comments as he spoke about Wales U-21 team’s chances in the future as he said, "This group has a lot to live up to but I know there is enough talent there to have a good campaign. I'm very impressed with the production line and I've been
involved with some of these players for four years. I know all about these players but we are always searching for new ones. Youth development is an ongoing long-term plan, it keeps revolving. We have to make sure these players put pressure on those in the
senior squad. So, yes, it's back to normal for me - but this is a very rewarding job."
In other news, England, who play France on Wednesday night, might face Ghana in another friendly encounter in March of 2011. Fabio Capello’s men resume their EURO qualification campaign next year as well so the Ghana matchup might give them an opportunity
to get in shape before the tough qualification campaign resumes again. Talks are already under way between football associations of Ghana and England. Nyantakyi, Ghanaian F.A.’s representative said, "Yes, it's true we are talking with England to play their
national team. We haven't finished the details yet but hopefully we are looking to engage them in March. It is a real possibility, but let us wait and see how it goes."
If Ghana and England do face each other next March, then it will be for the first time that both the nations will come out against each other in the past 10 years.
