International Football: Van Nistelrooy excited about Holland call up
Ruud Van Nistelrooy has come out and expressed his joy at being recalled to the Dutch national team by Holland’s coach, Bert Van Marwijk.
Nistelrooy has seen some ups and downs in his national team career but his ability to put the ball into the back of the net has never been doubted. The veteran striker was unfortunately not included by Marwijk in Holland’s squad
for the FIFA 2010 World Cup.
Despite the exclusion of the ex-Manchester United target man, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/South-Africa-c757.
Nistelrooy has been a prolific goal scorer in both club football and international football throughout his career.
After starting off his career with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/PSV-c40281 Eindhoven in the Dutch football league, Ruud was given a path to stardom by Manchester United as Sir Alex Ferguson secured the transfer of the clinical striker for around 19 million pounds.
The Dutchman scored 95 goals in 150 matches for the Red Devils before making his move to Real Madrid.
With Los Blancos, Ruud netted 46 goals in 68 games.
In the international arena, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Ruud-van-Nistelrooy-c31966 has an amazing goal scoring record as well. He has thus far scored 34 goals in 67 matches for Netherlands.
In 2007, Ruud had announced his retirement from international football due to differences between himself and the Dutch national team coach, Marco Van Basten.
However, the ex-Real Madrid man returned to international action shortly after, in the European Championships of 2008.
In his recent interview, Ruud stated that he was willing to work hard to make his place in the Dutch squad for the European Championships which are scheduled to take place in 2012. He also emphasized the fact that Bert Van Marwijk
had called him up to the Dutch national team albeit the presence of http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Robin-van-Persie-c31380 and Klaas Jan Huntelaar.
Holland are scheduled to play against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Austria-c2844 in a friendly encounter on Wednesday, 9th of February 2011. It will be interesting to see whether Van Marwijk starts with all three strikers i.e. Robin Van Persie, Ruud Van
Nistelrooy and Huntelaar.
The likeliness of this happening is quite low as Netherlands usually play a 4-3-3 formation with Van Nistelrooy or Robin Van Persie as the spearhead of their attack.
It should be remembered that the matchup is just a friendly match therefore it is possible that Van Nistelrooy might be introduced into the match as a substitute in the second half of the match.
