International Invitational Youth (Under-18) Table Tennis Championship
The Bangabandhu International Invitational Youth (Under-18) Table Tennis Championship is going to start from May 24 at the NSC Wooden Floor Gymnasium in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
The event will be inaugurated by the Finance Minister, Abul Maal Abdul Muhith. The five-day event will feature teams from 10 nations at the International Youth meet. The event is named after the Father of Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
There are around 82 players from China, India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Nepal, Thailand, the Maldives, Bhutan and host Bangladesh. The players will participate in five events; Boys' Team, Girls' Team, Boys' Singles, Girls' Singles and Mixed Doubles.
Bangladesh Table Tennis Federation (BTTF) President, Abdul Karim told the media about the proceedings of the event. He also announced the team which will be looking after the tournament's arrangements, media and security arrangements.
The team will include the Principal Information Officer (PIO), Chairman of the Tournament's Media Committee, Harun-Ur-Rashid, Chairman of the Finance Committee, Nurul Fazal Bulbul, Director General of Bangladesh Television, Vice Chairman of Media Committee
Kazi Abu Zafar Siddiqui and BTTF General Secretary ATM Shamsul Alam.
The BTTF general secretary, Shamsul Alam said, "An eight-member team, including four boys and four girls, will represent Bangladesh in the meet aiming to develop the skill and performance only”.
The teams from Nepal, Thailand, Sri Lanka and Maldives arrived at Dhaka on Sunday. Teams from five other countries will be arriving today to participate in the tournament.
The BTTF has announced a budget of Tk8.0 million (about PKR 8 million) to meet the tournament's expenditures. The opening and closing ceremonies will be shown live by the State-owned Bangladesh Television. The highlights of the match will also be shown
at a suitable time.
The BTTF staged its first table tennis event in December 1974 and the players participated in the first international event in 1975, the 33rd World Table Tennis Championship held in Kolkata.
The closing ceremony will be held on May 28 and it will be graced by the LGRD Minister, Syed Ashraful Islam. This event will play an important role in the development of the players and will give them an opportunity to compete with the Chinese players.
