International Sports Promotion Society: New sponsor for the New Zealand Women’s Open
The Ladies European Tour has announced that the New Zealand Women’s Open will remain part of the tour after the International Sports Promotion Society confirmed to sponsor the event’s 2012 edition, on January 4, 2011.
It will also be co-sanctioned with Australian Ladies Professional Golf Tour. The Pegasus Golf and Sports Club will host the three-day tournament from February 17 to 19, this year.
The International Sports Promotion Society is a charitable organisation that ensures the promotion of the sport among the charities.
The organisation is also known as ISPS Handa after its Japanese founder, Dr. Hаruhisa Hаndа.
The ISPS has fostered partnerships with some of the largest sporting bodies around the world to help promote golf among the disabled and blind players.
After Japan was hit by а devastating earthquake, followed by the Tsunami, ІSPS feels emphatic for the development of golf іn New Zealand, especially after the earthquakes in Christchurch, this year.
“The involvement of Dr. Haruhisa Handa in this event speaks volumes of how highly the New Zealand Women’s Open is regarded,” said New Zealand Golf Chief Executive Dean Murphy.
“We are thrilled that he has chosen to sponsor the ISPS Handa New Zealand Women’s Open as it keeps the tournament on the Ladies European Tour which is very significant”.
With the return of a big sponsor for the tournament, players like defending champion Kristie Smith and legendary golfer Laura Davies have announced to return to Christchurch.
The timings of the tournament match the Women's Australian Open and Australian Ladies Masters.
However, the tournament officials believe that the event will succeed in attracting some of the best female golfers around the world.
“To have household names like Kristie Smith and Laura Davies already confirmed for the event is a good indication of the quality of field we expect for the championship. It should be another great week for Christchurch,'' Dean Murphy said.
This will be the fourth edition of the tournament and is expected to be the best among all the events hosted at the Pegasus Golf and Sports Club earlier.
