International Stakes win propels Sir Henry Cecil second in the trainer’s title race
Sir Henry Cecil could wrap up his already memorable season as Britain's Champion trainer at the end of the season since the crown awaits the newly knighted trainer for the 11th time in his illustrious career.
Especially after a one-two in the Juddmonte International Stakes with his six-year-old horse, Twice Over, and his champion five-year-old brown mare, Midday, for owner, Prince Khalid Abdullah.
These wins have transcended the champion trainer to second on the winning board just behind Richard Hannon, the reigning champion.
This season, Sir Henry Cecil has pulled off some remarkable wins, all at the right time when the hype was overpowering and when he needed his runners to produce something special, they answered to his call.
The trainer’s favourite colt, Frankel, captured one win over trainer Richard Hannon when he defeated Richard’s Canford Cliffs in a more than convincing manner to land the Group 1 QIPCO Sussex Stakes on 27 July at Glorious Goodwood by a massive margin of
5 lengths.
Three days later, the five-year-old champion mare, Midday, came to the party once again and sealed an important win for Sir Henry Cecil when she landed the Group 1 Markel Insurance Nassau Stakes, defeating a quality field of six over a distance of 1 mile
and 1 furlong at Goodwood on 30 July.
Sir Henry Cecil has gone on to pocket a whopping sum of £520,470 and is now in touching distance of the reigning champion trainer, Richard Hannon.
With Frankel going to run in the Queen Elizabeth II Stakes, some punters think that he would come out of the race as a sure shot winner, which would shot up Sir Henry Cecil earnings to new higher levels with the winner taking home £567,700.
Sir Henry Cecil will definitely run Twice Over and Midday in the Champion Stakes, and if either of them comes out as a winner, it would yield Sir Henry Cecil another £1,017,770.
Though Hannon remains a tough man to pass, with the bookmakers and the wins on Sir Henry Cecil’s side, nobody knows what the outcome may be.
