International Test Cricket News: ICC keen on Test Championship
The International Cricket Council has decided to make the three varieties of international cricket more interesting than ever with some revolutionary steps aimed at making the game more attractive for
the viewers while retaining the original essence of the gentlemen’s game.
In this regard the longest format of the game is set to have a world championship of its own amid fears that it might lose its spark and standing that has made it the most loved format of cricketers
all over the world.
On the other hand, the ICC has decided to make the T20 Championships longer than the three previous editions. As a result the World Championship slated to take place in
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in 2012 is set to feature as many as 16 teams. The aim is to encourage more and more teams as well as give an opportunity to lesser known cricketing nations like
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Netherlands-c753.
The plan was unveiled by the Chief Executive of ICC http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Haroon-Lorgat-c61719 who right now is in the process of solving one of the greatest problems to have engulfed international cricket in recent years: the
damning match and spot fixing scandal that has caught three Pakistani players in its grip.
"Restructuring international cricket is a significant strategic challenge and one that must be dealt with." the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 based further Lorgat added "I am grateful to the
CEC and its working group for making such far-reaching proposals to tackle this important issue”.
He stated, "Achieving balance and unanimous agreement is not easy but it is a very important piece of work that requires a strategic response. The holistic set of proposals, especially introducing more
meaningful context, means we now have the potential to follow international cricket that is even more exciting.”
Lorgat then went to say, "Protecting and promoting all three formats at international level is viable and I believe the
CEC has shown itself to be forward thinking in tackling the challenges. I am now encouraged to engage with the ICC executive board to consider these proposals as soon as possible."
The decision to introduce the test championship was made in a meeting that was held in the South African city of
Cape Town. The moot lasted two days where the Central Executive Committee also mulled over some important decisions such as the implementation of the bad light rule.
The decision on light is now made by on-field umpires who have the responsibility to ensure that the conditions are not dangerous for players. ICC also added that ideally the floodlights at a cricketing
venue should be used even when shadows appear from the artificial light.
The ruling was explained by former South African wicket-keeper batsman and the General Manager ICC Dave http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Richardson-c85395, "There is a clear instruction to match officials that the players should only go off
the field when conditions are considered dangerous or unreasonable. In addition, players should not go off the field when the ground floodlights are switched on and these were deemed before the series to be adequate."
It remains to be seen when the test championship sees the light of day.
