International adoption, massachusetts agencies.?

Question

My husband and I are planning on adopting internationally, likely from South Korea. Does anyone have any experience, good or bad with specific MA agencies, or any of the four South Korea agencies?

We adopted both of our children from Korea. Unlike other countries, when adopting internationally from Korea, yuo DO have to work with an agency in your area that has a Korea program. In some states there are only a couple of agencies to choose from.

I do know that 'Wide Horizons For Children' has a Korean adoption program that works with families in MA. I've heard good things about the agency from other adoptive parents.

To do an IA you do not have to use an agency in a certain state. We used an out of state agency to adopt from China. The social worker who does your homestudy has to be licensed in your state though.

There are pretty strict requirements about which agencies can place children from S. Korea in each state.  For example, my husband and I live right outside of Portland, OR but would need to use an agency from WA because that is the state we reside in.  The agency in Portland being 15 minutes away and WA's more than 2 hours.  Do a search and talk to agencies to be sure that you are matched with one who can place children in MA.

I adopted my first child through the Protestant Social Services Bureau in Quincy, MA. This was in 1976. I was a single woman and my son was 5 days old when I got him from the hospital. I adopted four more children in the next 10 years through the Department of Social Services in Brockton, MA. from foster care. All my experiences were positive although at times frustrating and slow moving Because my four youngest children were my foster children first it took a couple of years before their parental rights were terminated. I found the social workers that I worked with very helpful and hard working.
