  1. well when you find out please send me the imformation too we are looking into international adoption to maybe from ukraine . we looked into adoption here in the states however we found social workers here want everyone to foster and not to adopt not saying you cant adopt  its just they make it too hard unless you want to foster

  2. Here is a good summary of the program.

    http://www.theadoptionguide.com/options/...

But bear in mind that International Adoption programs can change at a moment's notice. Current costs are right around $30K but waits are getting longer. Also Korea has some of the strictest parental requirements so you or your sister may not be a match for the program.

The best thing to do is to contact a local agency that handles multiple programs and take a meeting with them. Be prepared with ideas about programs that interest you but be open to learn which programs are the best match for your personal circumstance.

If you have any further questions, I am happy to help. I apologize for the very troubled people using this question/answer board as a soap box for their extremist views.

  3. I believe it was 25K - 35K...that was 20 years ago so who knows what it is now.

Some of the main agencies are:

    HOLT, KSS, SWS, ESWS

  4. Please bear with me, I'm trying to be as nice about  this as I can.

There are a LOT of 'special needs' children who are a bit older here in this country that need a family to adopt them out of foster care.  These are kids who have been bounced around a system that can't afford to care for them.

Instead of adopting a child from another country, taking him/her away from their culture, why not give a child right here a home they need?

and how was I supposed to know who you were asking this question for if not specified?  And how was I to know that she already had a special needs child if you didn't put it in your details?

Since she already has a special needs child and wants one that's perfect, it could cost a lot depending where she wants to adopt from.

Shame on me for thinking of the kids!  SHAME!  I forgot that most people want perfect infants and don't have the time for foster care.

Your sister will need to find an agency, pay them a few grand.  Then they'll have to actually go there (pretty difficult when you have a special needs child, right?) and pick up their new baby.  Then they'll have to pay for flights, passports, oh - don't forget the visa for the new baby!  Because the adoption can't be finalized until the child is in the states, which means that said child isn't a citizen of America until the adoption is final.

The final cost can be extremely expensive... somewhere upwards of 5000 - 40,000, depending on where you go and what the agency asks for.

  5. It really depends on the specific international program.  Some only cost a few thousand dollars, others in the tens of thousands.  Some have subsidies for special needs children or sibling groups.

  6. Depends, sometimes, you can adopt for free or up to $500. It depends on the agency, company, child, place.
